Der Songpoet, Singer/Songwriter, Gitarrist, promovierte Musikwissenschaftler und Philosoph Allan Taylor aus London ist seit 50 Jahren mit seinen Liedern in der ganzen Welt unterwegs. Seine Stimme ist unvergleichbar warm und tief, seine Gitarrenspiel puristisch und dabei doch so voll und ausdrucksstark und seine wunderbaren Liedtexte haben stets Tiefgang und verströmen einen Hauch von Wehmut. Ein großartiger Künstler, unprätentiös, geradlinig und zeitlos, der in 50 Jahren entlang des endlosen Highways seinen Blick für die Menschen geschärft, ihre Geschichten gesammelt und zu ebenso feinfühligen wie kraftvollen Liedern gemacht hat.

Anlässlich der Konzertreihe 50 Years On The Road wurde dieses schöne Konzert im Bürgersaal, Northeim mitgeschnitten.

Allan Taylor, Songpoet, Singer und Songwriter, promovierter Musikwissenschaftler und Philosoph. Er ist einer der Großen seines Genres, ein reisender Troubadour, der für die endlose Landstraße, die Menschen und ihre Geschichten lebt. Mit 16 Jahren verlässt er die Schule und seine britische Heimatstadt Brighton. Ohne Geld, nur mit seiner Gitarre und viel Idealismus zieht es ihn nach London, um in der lebendigen Beat-und Folkszene der Sechziger Jahre seinen Traum zu verwirklichen. Im angesagten Club "The Troubadour", in dem auch Bob Dylan und Paul Simon spielen, hat er seine ersten Auftritte. Hier lernt er auch seinen späteren Mentor und Freund, die amerikanische Folklegende Derroll Adams kennen. Weiter geht es nach New York, auf die Bühnen der legendären Clubs von Greenwich Village, wie The Gaslight, Gerde's und The Bitter End und zum ersten Plattenvertrag bei United Artists. Mitte der Siebziger Jahre zieht es Allan Taylor zurück nach London. Mit einem Vertrag bei der Plattenfirma Chrysalis startet seine weltweite Karriere. Für das 1978 veröffentlichte Album "The Traveller" erhält er den "Grand Prix du Disque de Montreux" für das beste europäische Album. Viele Alben folgen, bis heute insgesamt 18 an der Zahl. Von Allan Taylors Liedern existieren nicht weniger als 200 Coverversionen zahlreicher renommierter Künstler in zehn Sprachen. Eine der in Deutschland wohl bekanntesten ist "Gut wieder hier zu sein", Hannes Waders Interpretation von "It's good to see you". Das folker Magazin zeichnet AIIan Taylors Album "Hotels & Dreamers" 2004 als Album des Jahres aus. Für den Philosophen, dessen akademisches Werk genauso wie die meisten seiner Lieder und Texte zu einem großen Teil auf Reisen in Hotelzimmern, Bars und Restaurants entstanden ist, nahezu ein Beleg für seine Nähe zum wahren Leben. Das 2013 erschienene Album "All Is One" ist von der internationalen Musikpresse mehrfach als Meisterwerk und Allan Taylors bestes Album bezeichnet worden. Von Stockfisch Records wurde es für Musikliebhaber auch als hochwertige Vinylausgabe produziert. Ein Künstler auf der Höhe seines Schaffens, mit der Reife und Gelassenheit, die keinem mehr etwas beweisen muss. Die Einheit von Stimme und Gitarrenspiel zu feinsinnigen Liedtexten sind zu Allan Taylors unverwechselbarem Markenzeichen geworden. Das neunzehnte Album ist als Liveaufnahme für April 2015 in Planung. Nach der erfolgreichen Zusammenarbeit mit dem italienischen Konzertdirektor Valter Sivilotti und seinem Orchester in 2013 entschied Stockfisch Records, einige Songs von Allan Taylor zusammen mit dem Göttinger Symphonie Orchester aufzunehmen und zu produzieren. Im Mai 2015 startet die ,,50 Years on the Road" Tour, mit der AIIan Taylor bis ins Jahr 2016 an viele Stationen seines Schaffens zurückkehren wird - unter anderem nach London, Brighton, New York und natürlich Deutschland. Allan Taylor
is one of the last of the traveling troubadours who came through the social and artistic revolution of the nineteen sixties and carved out a career as a solo singer-songwriter. Born in Brighton, England in 1945 he experienced the Beatnik times, the Skiffle days, the Mods and Rockers and the early Hippy days, all played out on Brighton Beach. At the age of twenty one he left home and became part of the vibrant folk music of London, playing all of the major folk clubs of the time (for example, the famous Troubadour Club) and then to Greenwich Village, New York, playing legendary clubs such as Gerde’s, The Gaslight, The Bitter End, The Mercer Arts Center. He embraced the issues, images and emotions of his time and used these experiences as the basis of his songs. Signed to the international record company United Artists and recording in London, Nashville and Los Angeles his albums were released world-wide. By the mid-seventies he returned to Europe to live and then started on the second part of his career, having now established his modus operandi – collecting the stories for his songs in the bars and cafes of Europe and throughout the rest of the world.

For more than forty-five years Allan Taylor has travelled the world performing at festivals, concert halls and clubs. He is considered to be one of the foremost singer-songwriters and guitarists in his genre, with more than one hundred recorded versions of his songs by Artists in ten different languages. One song in particular, “It’s good to see you” was a hit in many countries, and to date, there are eighty cover versions of this song. Looking back as well as forward, few people can convey with such eloquence their life experiences. His songs are written from a lifetime of traveling; always the observer passing through, each song is a vignette of life, like a story told over a drink in a bar. He writes his songs in cafes, bars and hotel rooms throughout the world, songs for the lost and lonely, for the unsung heroes of life, for those marginalized by society – they all find a place in his songs. Each song has an integrity that tells you it comes from something real; characters come to life as people you know and places become as familiar as if you had been there.

Allan is considered to be one of the music scene’s great guitarists, creating during his stage performance a distinctive rich and mellow sound, and with a voice that speaks of a life-time of travel he can make each song a vignette of life, like a story told over a drink in a bar. His songs have an integrity that tell you they come from something real, where characters come to life as people you know and places become as familiar as if you had been there. When this happens, you know it’s an Allan Taylor concert.

Allan Taylor is also a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy and Music, having written his thesis for the Queen’s University of Belfast.
