The Brodsky Quartet presents this second volume in its exploration of Brahms’s complete string quartets. The first, which also featured the Clarinet Quintet with Michael Collins, received numerous enthusiastic reviews, The Guardian praising the players for their ‘immaculate’ performance. The String Quartet, Op. 51 No. 1, featured here, was written alongside its contrasting companion, Op. 51 No. 2. Both were finally published in 1873 after having been held back for years by a typically self-doubting Brahms, until he had brought them to his own high standards of perfection. Op. 51 may be regarded as evidence of his concern to revive and reinvigorate a genre, the strong legacy of which went back to the generation of Mozart, Haydn, and, above all, Beethoven. The Quartet is joined by the young, prodigious Ukrainian pianist Natacha Kudritskaya in the Piano Quintet, a more adventurous work: it had started life as a String Quintet, which Brahms then transcribed as a sonata for two pianos. The final version gives as much importance to the strings as to the piano.

erhielt ihren ersten Unterricht im Alter von 7 Jahren. Ihrer Schulzeit an der stark musikorientierten Lysenko-Schule in Kiev folgte ein Studium an der Nationalen Tschaikowsky-Musikakademie in den Klassen von Irina Barinova und Igor Riabov.

Von 2003 bis 2007 studierte sie an der Pariser Musikhochschule (CNSMDP) bei Alain Planès und erhielt höchste Auszeichnungen für ihr Diplom-Recital. Sie vervollkommnete daraufhin ihr Spiel durch ein Aufbaustudium bei Jacques Rouvier in Paris sowie bei Stefan Vladar an der Universität für Musik in Wien. Gleichfalls zu ihren Lehrern und Ratgebern zählten Dmitri Bashkirov, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Christoph Eschenbach, Jean-Claude Pennetier und Claudio Martinez-Menher. In den Jahren 2008 und 2009 wurde Natacha Kudritskaya gleichzeitig durch die Stiftung der Adami, die Stiftung Groupe Banque Populaire und ein Stipendium des Mécénat Musicale der Société Générale gefördert.

Sie gewann ebenfalls den Großen Preis der Safran-Stiftung, den ersten Preis des Internationalen Vibrarte-Wettbewerbs, ist Preisträgerin des „Generationen“-Wettbewerbs der SPEDIDAM und erhielt den Preis „Robert Casadesus“ für ihre persönliche und charaktervolle Interpretation der französischen Klavierliteratur. Natacha Kudritskaya tritt regelmäßig in Paris (Orsay-Museum, Cité de la Musique, Salle Cortot) sowie auf Festivals in ganz Frankreich auf (Festival Roque d'Antheron, Festival Grange de Meslay, Festival Dinard, les Serres d'Auteil, Festival de l'Epau, Festival Perigord Noir).

Auch europaweit gibt sie häufig Konzerte als Solistin oder Kammermusikpartnerin, u.a. in Wien, Gstaad, Kuhmo, Riga, Bratislava, Frankfurt, London, Santander, Stift und Attergau. Mehrere Tourneen führen sie in die Ukraine, nach Israel und in die USA.

2015 erschien die CD 'Nocturnes' bei der Deutschen Grammophon.

Brodsky Quartet
Seit seiner Gründung im Jahr 1972 spielte das Brodsky Quartet aus Großbritannien über 3.000 Konzerte auf den wichtigsten Bühnen der Welt und veröffentlichte mehr als 60 Aufnahmen. Sein Können wurde weltweit mit zahlreichen Preisen und Auszeichnungen gewürdigt. Während ihrer über 45-jährigen Karriere war das Brodsky Quartet bei allen wichtigsten Festivals und Konzertsälen der Welt zu Gast.

Im Laufe der Jahre hat das Brodsky Quartet zahlreiche Einspielungen der kompletten Quartette von Schubert, Beethoven, Tschaikowsky, Britten, Schönberg, Zemlinsky, Webern und Bartok vorgelegt. Der gesamte Schostakowitsch-Zyklus steht inzwischen für den Namen des Quartetts. Seine Londoner Aufführung des Zyklus 2012 führte dazu, dass sie den renommierten Titel „Artistic Associate“ am Londoner Kings Place erhielten und im Oktober 2016 ihre zweite Aufnahme des Zyklus veröffentlichten.

Das Brodsky Quartet wurde unter anderem mit dem Diapason d’or und dem Choc du Monde de la Musique ausgezeichnet sowie mit dem Royal Philharmonic Society Award für seine herausragenden Beiträge zur Musik. Benannt ist das Quartett nach dem großen russischen Geiger Adolf Brodsky, dem Widmungsträger von Tschaikowskys Violinkonzert, einem leidenschaftlichen Kammermusiker.
