Why did you choose Wagner's music for your inaugural concert at the head of the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France and to start your musical adventure with the musicians? – Although I have many repertoire interests, Wagner is one of the composers closest to my heart. It was his music that revealed to me that I wanted to dedicate my life to music. And given the context of the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France's rich history and repertoire, Wagner seemed like the boldest, strongest step that we could take together on this new journey of ours.

Orchestre national d'le-de-France
Case Scaglione, conductor

Case Scaglione
is Chief Conductor of the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn and Music Director Designate of Orchestre national d'Île de France (19/20). He has previously served as Associate Conductor with the New York Philharmonic and Music Director of the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra of Los Angeles. Case was the driving force behind the artistic growth and diversification of the organisation, founding their educational outreach initiative ‘360° Music’.

Back in 2016, Case made a highly acclaimed German debut with the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn for the final subscription performance of the 15/16 concert season. Heilbronner Stimme commented Precision, balance, and an almost weightless sound dominated the concert from the first bar…Mozart’s Linz Symphony was like a sun-lit wander along an alpine way. Following second return to the orchestra conducting Beethoven’s 1st Symphony in Stuttgart’s Liederhalle, it was announced at the press conference in Heilbronn in July 2017 that Case Scaglione had been unanimously elected as the orchestra’s Chief Conductor effective from the 2018-19 season.

In their short time together, the orchestra has played with soloists such as Simone Lamsma, Johannes Moser and Sharon Kam.Enjoying an intense touring schedule, together with Case, Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn currently performs in some of the most distinguished venues across Europe including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Vienna’s Musikverein and Herkulessaal in Munich, where they will present four different programs across 18/19 season. In the current and upcoming seasons, the theme of Transformation is the major thematic focus and to this end some of the programme highlights featuring in live performance are Transfigured Night by Arnold Schoenberg, Metamorphosen by Richard Strauss as well as a recording of the Six Symphonies (after Ovid’s Metamorphoses), by Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf. Further recording plans with Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn include an all-Copland CD with clarinetist Sebastian Manz performing the clarinet concerto.

Following a two-week tour of d’île de France region back in 2016, Case’s debut with Orchestre national d'Île de France was a huge success leading to an instant re-invitation to conduct the orchestra in the Philharmonie de Paris for the opening of 17/18 season. Following a second collaboration with the orchestra, it was announced that Case had been elected as the orchestra’s designate Music Director from the 19/ 20 season. Case will next conduct the orchestra in August 2019 at theBerlioz Festival in Côte Saint-André for a program featuring Ludwig van Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony and Heldenleben by Richard Strauss.

High in demand as a guest conductor across the globe, Case’s recent distinguished European engagements include debut and return appearances with Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Ulster Symphony, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Brussels Philharmonic, Flanders Symphony Orchestra and Brno Philharmonic. In North America, Case has worked with New York Philharmonic, Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Phoenix, San Diego and Baltimore symphony orchestras. In Asia, he has led concerts with the China Philharmonic Orchestra as well as Shanghai and Guangzhou symphony orchestras, in addition to regular returns to the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

He enjoys close relationships with many of the world’s leading solo artists including Joshua Bell, Yulianna Avdeeva, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Behzod Abduraimov and Khatia Buniatishvili. Case’s conducting mentors have included some of the most prominent conductors on the world stage today including Alan Gilbert, Jaap van Zweden and David Zinman.
