"Stargazer" wurde größtenteils in zwei viertägigen, sozial distanzierten Studiositzungen aufgenommen und ist der jüngste Teil einer bemerkenswerten Solokarriere, in der Pellow so ziemlich jedes zweite Jahr ein neues Projekt in Angriff genommen hat, seit er 1999 die Multiplatin-Popsensation Wet Wet Wet verließ. Als Solokünstler hat er schon länger mehr erreicht als als Frontmann der totemistischen Popband, die in den Achtzigern und Neunzigern die britischen Charts dominierte. Wie also ging dieser produktive Künstler an die Schaffung von Stargazer" heran, einer Sammlung neuer Songs, die zum Teil eine Hommage an seine Vorliebe für alle von David Bowie bis Harry Nilsson, Curtis Mayfield und John Lennon sind? Pellow sagt: "Ich glaube, bei Stargazer geht es um Vorstellungskraft, jeder Tag ist ein Schultag im Songwriting, und das ist es, wozu mich dieses Album zurückgeführt hat. Es war ein großer Lernprozess". Die reichhaltigen, gelegentlich epischen, wunderschön gespielten und orchestrierten Tracks wurden größtenteils in zwei oder drei Takes live aufgenommen, als Bewusstseinsstrom. Begleitet wurde Pellow im Studio von den Brüdern Jeremy am Schlagzeug und Paul Stacey (The Lemon Trees) an der Gitarre, Charlie Jones (Goldfrapp) am Bass und James Halliwell (The Waterboys) an den Keyboards.

Zuvor war der mit dem BRIT und dem Ivor Novello Award ausgezeichnete Singer-Songwriter Leadsänger der schottischen Popgruppe Wet Wet Wet, die er von ihrer Gründung 1982 bis zu ihrer Trennung 1997 und nach ihrer Wiedervereinigung 2004 bis zu seinem Ausstieg 2017 leitete. Zu ihren Hits gehörten Love Is All Around, Angel Eyes, Goodnight Girl, Sweet Little Mystery und viele mehr. Marti hat auch als Schauspieler in zahlreichen Musiktheaterproduktionen sowohl im West End als auch am Broadway mitgewirkt, darunter Rollen in Chicago und auf Tournee mit Evita. Außerdem spielte er die Hauptrolle in der Konzert- und Kinoproduktion von Chess an der Seite von US-Schauspieler und Sänger Josh Groban und Tony-Preisträgerin Idina Menzel. Sowohl als Solokünstler als auch mit Wet Wet Wet hat sich Marti eine beständige Chartpräsenz aufgebaut. Born Mark McLachlan in Clydebank in 1965, Marti Pellow formed Wet Wet Wet when he was only 17. The band went on to score huge hits in the UK and further afield with Wishing I Was Lucky, Goodnight Girl, A Little Help From My Friends, Sweet Little Mystery and more. However, it was their cover of The Troggs Love Is All Around, taken from the soundtrack to Four Weddings And A Funeral, that would etch their names into the record books, staying at No.1 for 15 weeks and selling almost two million copies.

In 1999, Pellow quit Wet Wet Wet in order to contend with his alcohol and drug addiction. While recovering, he struck up a friendship with Chris Difford of Squeeze and the two began writing together, resulting in Pellow's solo debut, Smile, in 2001. The album went Gold in the UK. Pellow followed it up by re-recording material from both his Wet Wet Wet days and his solo album for Marti Pellow Sings The Hits Of Wet Wet Wet & Smile in 2002.

Following a third solo album, the 2003 covers record Between The Covers, Pellow ventured into acting with a role as Billy Flynn in Chicago. He then rejoined Wet Wet Wet for their reunion in 2004, staying with the band until 2017. In the meantime, he continued his concurrent careers as both a solo artist and stage performer, venturing into jazz for Sentimental Me in 2007 and appearing in productions of Jekyll & Hyde, Chess, Evita and Blood Brothers.

For his 2017 solo album Mysterious, Pellow fulfilled a lifelong dream of working with some of the world's finest musicians at the revered Ocean Way studios in Los Angeles.

Once the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the live music industry, the perpetually touring Pellow turned to the internet to connect with fans, live-streaming performances of both covers and hits from his back catalogue.

In 2021, Pellow released his 11th solo studio album, Stargazer. The album was preceded by the single These Are The Days. Marti Pellow announced a greatest hits tour for November 2021, followed by more dates to support his new album scheduled for April 2022.
