“Grandseigneur at the Piano”: The pianist Josef Bulva, born in 1943 in Brno, has been an eminent virtuoso and outstanding artistic personality since his early youth. Already at the beginning of his career, he enthused the experts by his stupendous technique that has remained a landmark of his interpretation. Yet virtuosity has never been a matter for its own sake to him, it goes along with his analytical musicality. The knowledge about structures of a composition – he compiled it in collaboration with composers – is a further milestone of Bulva’s unique interpretation. The professional music world celebrates him as the “Pianist of the Scientific Age”.

After a thirteen-year time-out of artistic activities, due to a severe injury of his left hand, Josef Bulva inaugurated his comeback on the concert stage. The TV stations ARD and RTL made films about his life, several other TV stations showed portraits about his life work.

Josef Bulva writes pianistic history, since he, “the Pianist among the Pianists”, uses the middle pedal, ( sostenuto pedal ) of piano in order to attain finest disclosure of music structures – that is why in his interpretation “famous compositions sound in new apparel”. Thus, the STEINWAY patent from 1874 gaines, after years of little attention, the acknowledgment and reputation it deserves.

In countermove STEINWAY produced for Bulva his concert grand piano – the well known No. 582 310 – that comes on the scene without a peer in sound and mechanical idiosyncrasy, both audible and visible on DVD produced by RCA, named “The Sound of 582 310“.

The legendary record’s company RCA, today owned by SONY, has secured exclusive rights on cooperation with the formerly committed virtuoso and already produced new CDs under the RCA RED SEAL label, on which Bulva plays works by Beethoven, Chopin and Szymanowski. In spring 2015, RCA honored Josef Bulva by editing and releasing a double CD with his interpretation of Franz Liszt’s compositions, he recorded from 1960 to 2014. On 2016 followed DVD named “The Sound of 582 310“ that mirrors the property of Bulva’s famous grand concert piano.

Der Pianist Josef Bulva, 1943 in Brno geboren, gilt seit seiner Jugend als Ausnahmevirtuose und herausragende Künstlerpersönlichkeit. Bereits zu Beginn seiner Laufbahn begeisterte er die Fachwelt durch seine stupende Technik, die bis heute ein Wahrzeichen seiner Interpretation geblieben ist. Virtuosität ist für Bulva kein Selbstzweck, sondern sie geht mit seinem analytischen Musikverständnis einher. Das Wissen über die Entstehung und Strukturen einer Komposition – das er sich in Zusammenarbeit mit Komponisten erarbeitet hat – ist ein weiteres Fundament für die Einzigartigkeit von Bulvas Interpretationen. Die Fachwelt feiert ihn als „Pianist des wissenschaftlichen Zeitalters“.

Josef Bulva schreibt pianistische Geschichte, indem er, der „Pianist unter den Pianisten“, das dritte Pedal eines Konzertflügels als zusätzliches Mittel für feinste Klanggestaltung nutz. Die von ihm gespielten „berühmten Werke erklingen in neuem Gewand“. Das STEINWAY-Patent aus dem Jahre 1874 kommt damit nach Jahren geringer Bedeutung zu gebührender Anerkennung.

Im Gegenzug produzierte STEINWAY für Bulva seinen Konzertflügel – die bekannte Nr. 582 310 – dessen Klang auf der bei RCA erschienenen DVD „The Sound of 582 310“ nachgehört werden kann und der seinesgleichen sucht.

Nach einer 13-jährigen Auszeit, bedingt durch eine schwere Unfallverletzung seiner linken Hand, kam Josef Bulva auf die Konzertbühne und zur RCA, die ihn seit 1984 begleitet, zurück. Die Sender ARD und RTL drehten Filme über sein Leben und mehrere Fernsehanstalten strahlten Portraits über seine Arbeit aus.
