Gerade britischer Staatsbürger geworden, bekam Händel 1727 den Auftrag, für die Krönung von George II. einige Hymnen zu schreiben. Dass er einmal für einen so würdigen Anlass komponieren sollte, hatte er sich wohl nicht vorgestellt: So nutzte er die Gelegenheit voll aus und schuf ein musikalisches Feuerwerk von unerhörter Opulenz. Der RIAS Kammerchor und die Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin veredeln diese funkelnden Stücke – von denen einige noch heute bei jeder Krönung gespielt werden!
