Anfang des Jahres gewann »Outlaw«-Legende Willie Nelson mit »My Way«, seiner Frank Sinatra-Hommage, seinen 13. Grammy in der Kategorie »Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album«. Nun meldet er sich mit seinem neuen Studioalbum »Ride Me Back Home« zurück.

Der amerikanische Musik-Journalist Mikal Gilmore fand die passenden Worte für die neue Platte: Für ihn sei »Ride Me Back Home« der gelungene Abschluss einer Trilogie über die Sterblichkeit. Beginnend mit »God's Problem Child« und über »Last Man Standing« bringt »Ride Me Back Home« eine neue Komponente der Thematik ins Spiel: Empathie. Das Album ist dabei eine Reise voller Leben und Liebe aus dem weisen Blickwinkel Willies, der jeden Moment, jede Erfahrung wertschätzt und es deshalb genießt, jeden der Songs zu singen.

»Ride Me Back Home« ist die 13. Platte, die Buddy Cannon für Nelson produzierte und enthält drei Songs (»Come On Time«, »Seven Year Itch« und »One More Song To Write«), die sie gemeinsam schrieben. Neben neuen Kompositionen und dem Titeltrack zollt Willie Nelson verschiedenen Country- und Popmusikern Tribut, unter anderem Billy Joel, Mac Davis und Guy Clark. The very first musician to perform on the premiere episode of Austin City Limits in 1974, Willie Nelson was inducted into the inaugural class of the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame by fellow Texan Matthew McConaughey on Saturday, April 26, 2014. “There would be no Austin City Limits without Willie Nelson,” McConaughey told the audience assembled at the University of Texas at Austin, the original home of what is now America’s longest-running televised music program.
