Biographie Ensemble Marguerite Louise & Gaétan Jarry

Ensemble Marguerite Louise & Gaétan Jarry
Marguerite Louise Couperin (1676-1728)
was a first cousin of François Couperin and was described by Titon du Tillet as one of the most famous female musicians of her time. The Ensemble Marguerite Louise was founded in 2007 and is made up of passionate musicians from a variety of backgrounds, having studied at the major schools (CNSM in Paris, CNSM in Lyon, Amsterdam Conservatoire, Centre de Musique Baroque in Versailles, Schola Cantorum in Basel) or having already performed with prestigious ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants, Les Eléments, Le Concert Spirituel and Les Talens Lyriques. Their shared aim is to bring these intimate little motets – which are so symptomatic of the piety of the Sun King and his court at the end of the 17th century - back to life. The Ensemble Marguerite Louise also come together frequently as a consort of viols to perform 17th century European repertoires (Byrd, Buxtehude, Ferrabosco, etc.) The Ensemble’s performances have taken in venues such as the Cité de la Musique in Paris, the Chapelle Royale in Versailles and church of Saint Gervais in Paris.
