Info for The Wandering Hearts

"2nd Album from critically acclaimed UK based Americana-pop-folk- country trio The Wandering Hearts, produced by Simone Felice & David Baron (Lumieres, Jade Bird), with three tracks by Mike Mogis (First Aid Kit) out in the USA, The trio recorded their second album in Woodstock, New York State, during 2020 and plan to release it on 30th July 2021. The band released their debut album Wild Silence in 2018 via Decca and have won the Bob Harris Emerging Artist Award at the UK Americana Awards. First British band to debut at the Grand Ole Opry and Ryman Theatre in Nashville in the same week, they now have an open invitation to the Opry."

The Wandering Hearts shot to the forefront of the UK folk-Americana scene with their debut album ‘Wild Silence’. Earning glowing comparisons ranging from First Aid Kit to Fleetwood Mac, the album propelled them upon a remarkable journey during which they played some of America’s most storied venues. After a personal invitation from the legendary Marty Stuart, they became the first band to make their US debut at Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium and then play the Grand Ole Opry in the same week. An early highlight came at the UK Americana Awards, where they won the Bob Harris Emerging Artist Award and performed with Robert Plant, Mumford & Sons and Imelda May. Two years on the road followed, with sold-out headline tours, support slots for Lukas Nelson, Justin Townes Earle and Larkin Poe, opening for Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks at London's BST Hyde Park, and festival circuits across the UK and US.

The trio – Tara Wilcox, Chess Whiffin and AJ Dean-Revington – started writing for the album by drawing on personal experiences. Themes and stories emerged that reflected how they’ve supported each other, both within music and life in general. They’re topics that are universally relatable: life, death, love and fear. They commented: “Tackling some of these topics can feel very heavy, especially when times seem equally tough, and asking for help is sometimes hard. However, knowing that we’re stronger together than apart is the key. Hope has become the core of what this record stands for and what it means to us. Never losing hope that we can at any moment change the outcome of our future.”

To maximise the potential of the material, The Wandering Hearts called upon the expertise of producers Simone Felice and David Baron. The duo’s magic touch had previously inspired numerous acclaimed artists including The Lumineers, Jade Bird and Bat For Lashes. The majority of the album was crafted at pair’s mountain top studio near Woodstock, NY. It was a location that further fuelled the band’s creativity, from the striking scenery of the local area to the historic instruments, notably a celesta once owned by Thelonious Monk. The result is an album which brims with hope, even in the darkest of times.

The Wandering Hearts

The Wandering Hearts
Fresh off the back of their sold out headline gig at London’s Borderline and UK tour supporting legend Marty Stuart, Folk-Americana group The Wandering Hearts are back on the road for the Coffeehouse Sessions.

The Wandering Hearts are reminiscent of First Aid Kit, Of Monsters and Men and Chris Stapleton, whilst keeping their British roots at the very heart of their music. Their seamless vocal harmonies and pop sensibility add a twist of Fleetwood Mac.

Band members AJ, Chess, Tim and Tara are all grafters – working hard to hone their skills as musicians, and the standard is there to be seen. Hearing how naturally their voices blend together, it’s incredible they met almost by chance 18 months ago. Their love of folk, Americana, vocal harmonies and gin drew them together, and one afternoon in an empty bar room of the Earl Haig Hall in Crouch End, The Wandering Hearts were born.

The band’s debut, ‘Wish I Could’, is one of the first songs The Wandering Hearts wrote together and highlights their knack for crafting heartfelt lyrics. A bittersweet song, it has an undeniable tragic truth in the lyrics that really punches when coupled with the pounding upbeat music and melody. The Wandering Hearts’ second release, ‘Devil’ further showcases their ability to tell stories and write undeniably catchy lyrics. With a melody that is sure to have listeners humming along for days, ‘Devil’ is a driving song that’s one of the band’s favourites to play live. A beautiful balance of harmonies, it seamlessly blends the band’s powerful vocals.

Discovered within half an hour of uploading their first demo online, The Wandering Hearts signed a major recording deal with Decca Records shortly after. This year has seen the band play sold-out headline shows at St Pancras Old Church and the Borderline, plus a string of summer festivals across the UK including Bestival, Cornbury, Secret Garden Party and Standon Calling. The summer highlight for the band was sharing the bill with Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks at BST Hyde Park. They’ve been busy recording their debut album, due for release in early 2018.
