Info for Schoolyard Ghosts (Remastered)

The second release on the Kscope label, No-Man's sixth official studio album, Schoolyard Ghosts its first since 2003's atmospheric break-up album, Together We're Stranger, generated some of the best press and sales of the band's career. Originally recorded between Autumn 2007 and Spring 2008, Schoolyard Ghosfs is a distinctive combination of beautifully detailed songwriting, haunting melodies and inventively cinematic production.

The album saw No-Man's core duo of Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson expanding the band's sonic palette by collaborating with, amongst others Califomian pedal steel ace Bruce Kaphan (American Music Club), saxophonist / flautist Theo Travis, drummers Pat Mastelotto and Gavin Harrison, and the London Session Orchestra (arranged by Dave Stewart).

The album contains the semi-orchestral 12 minute epic Truenorth, fan favourite Wherever There Is Light and the intense sonic maelstrom of Mixtaped.

Written and recorded between Autumn 2007 and Spring 2008, schoolyard ghosts is no-man's sixth official studio album and its first since 2003's together we're stranger. A distinctive combination of beautifully detailed songwriting, haunting melodies and inventively cinematic production, schoolyard ghosts sees no-man’s core duo of Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson expanding the band's sonic palette by collaborating with, amongst others, Californian pedal steel ace Bruce Kaphan, saxophonist/flautist Theo Travis, drummers Pat Mastelotto and Gavin Harrison, and the London Session Orchestra (arranged by Dave Stewart).

Featuring the sweetly hypnotic wherever there is light, the warped dynamics of pigeon drummer, the outsider lament of all sweet things, and the subtly evolving explorations of the uplifting semi-orchestral epic truenorth, schoolyard ghosts reveals the band taking its accessible and ambitious blend of Post-Rock and Singer-songwriter influences to an even more focused and personalised place than before.

No-Man
is a British duo formed in 1987 by Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson.

No-Man are Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson. Comprising the band’s sell-out performance at London’s Bush Hall in 2008, a comprehensive career-spanning documentary, and numerous extras (including newly commissioned and archive video footage), Mixtaped provides a fascinating insight into one of British music’s most unusual cult heroes.

Formed in 1987 by Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson, No-Man has produced a unique body of work that has developed from the band’s proto trip-hop/ ambient origins into something beyond easy categorisation. After receiving ecstatic press reviews, indie top 20 hits and high profile contracts in the early 1990s (with One Little Indian and Epic/ Sony), the band has continued to evolve throughout its subsequent career.

Redefining itself with a constantly changing musical palette, No-Man has most recently released material through celebrated post- progressive label Kscope, and built up a loyal worldwide following drawn to the band’s increasingly ambitious and personal sound.

Over the course of six massively varied albums, No-Man has produced a unique body of work that has developed from the band's proto Trip-Hop/Ambient origins into something beyond easy categorisation.

After receiving ecstatic press reviews, indie top 20 hits and high profile contracts in the early 1990s (with One Little Indian and Epic/Sony), the band has continued to evolve throughout its subsequent career.

Redefining itself with its constantly changing musical palette, No-Man has released material through celebrated post-progressive label Kscope and its own online shop (via www.burningshed.com), building up a loyal worldwide cult following drawn to the band's increasingly ambitious and personal sound.

The band, consisting of Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), has worked with electro-pioneers Scanner and Muzlimgauze, Jazz luminaries Ian Carr and Theo Travis, as well as collaborating with the legendary likes of Roger Eno, King Crimson personnel, Robert Fripp, Pat Mastelotto and Mel Collins, and ex-Japan members, Jansen, Barbieri and Karn.

Drawing from a diverse mix of Minimalist, Singer-songwriter, Pop, Art Rock and Contemporary Electronica sources for inspiration, No-Man's music is an emotive and potent fusion of panoramic soundscapes, sensuous songs and sonic surprises.
