Info for Stargazer

Largely recorded over two, four day socially distanced studio sessions in 'Stargazer' is the latest instalment in a remarkable solo career that's seen Pellow embark on a new project pretty much every other year since he left multi-platinum selling pop sensations Wet Wet Wet in 1999. He's done more as a solo artist, for longer, than he did as frontman with the totemic pop band who dominated the British charts in the Eighties and Nineties. How, then, did this prolific artist approach the creation of 'Stargazer', a collection of new songs that in part pay homage to his love of everyone from David Bowie to Harry Nilsson, Curtis Mayfield to John Lennon? Pellow says, 'I believe Stargazer is about imagination, every day is a school day in songwriting, and that's what this album took me back to. It was a big learning process'. Largely recorded over two, four-day socially-distanced studio sessions in Monnow Valley, Wales, the rich, occasionally epic, beautifully played and orchestrated tracks were mostly recorded live as a stream-of-consciousness in two or three takes. Accompanying Pellow in the studio were brothers drummer Jeremy and guitarist Paul Stacey (The Lemon Trees), with Charlie Jones (Goldfrapp) on bass, and James Halliwell (The Waterboys) on keyboards.

Previously, The BRIT and Ivor Novello award-winning singer-songwriter was the lead singer of the Scottish pop group, Wet Wet Wet, from their formation in 1982 until their split in 1997, and then again when they reformed in 2004 until his departure in 2017. Their hits included Love Is All Around, Angel Eyes, Goodnight Girl, Sweet Little Mystery and many more. Marti has also performed as an actor in numerous musical theatre productions in both the West End and on Broadway including roles in Chicago and touring with Evita. He also starred in the concert and cinema production of Chess alongside US actor and singer Josh Groban and Tony award-winner Idina Menzel. As both a solo artist and with Wet Wet Wet, Marti has built up a consistent chart presence. With several multi-platinum albums, including his solo efforts Love to Love and jazz album Sentimental Me.

Marti Pellow

Marti Pellow
Born Mark McLachlan in Clydebank in 1965, Marti Pellow formed Wet Wet Wet when he was only 17. The band went on to score huge hits in the UK and further afield with Wishing I Was Lucky, Goodnight Girl, A Little Help From My Friends, Sweet Little Mystery and more. However, it was their cover of The Troggs Love Is All Around, taken from the soundtrack to Four Weddings And A Funeral, that would etch their names into the record books, staying at No.1 for 15 weeks and selling almost two million copies.

In 1999, Pellow quit Wet Wet Wet in order to contend with his alcohol and drug addiction. While recovering, he struck up a friendship with Chris Difford of Squeeze and the two began writing together, resulting in Pellow's solo debut, Smile, in 2001. The album went Gold in the UK. Pellow followed it up by re-recording material from both his Wet Wet Wet days and his solo album for Marti Pellow Sings The Hits Of Wet Wet Wet & Smile in 2002.

Following a third solo album, the 2003 covers record Between The Covers, Pellow ventured into acting with a role as Billy Flynn in Chicago. He then rejoined Wet Wet Wet for their reunion in 2004, staying with the band until 2017. In the meantime, he continued his concurrent careers as both a solo artist and stage performer, venturing into jazz for Sentimental Me in 2007 and appearing in productions of Jekyll & Hyde, Chess, Evita and Blood Brothers.

For his 2017 solo album Mysterious, Pellow fulfilled a lifelong dream of working with some of the world's finest musicians at the revered Ocean Way studios in Los Angeles.

Once the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the live music industry, the perpetually touring Pellow turned to the internet to connect with fans, live-streaming performances of both covers and hits from his back catalogue.

In 2021, Pellow released his 11th solo studio album, Stargazer. The album was preceded by the single These Are The Days. Marti Pellow announced a greatest hits tour for November 2021, followed by more dates to support his new album scheduled for April 2022.
