On Golden Age Houndmouth takes a fearless approach to production by enlisting the unlikely team of Jonathan Rado and Shawn Everett, who employed some fairly unconventional recording techniques in the studio. The end result is enthralling, inventive and even more melodic than anything they've previously released.

Houndmouth sind Matt Myers, Shane Cody, Katie Toupin und Zak Appleby und was als erstes hängen blieb ist der großartige mehrstimmige Gesang, der sich durch große Teile ihrer Musik zieht. Die zweite Besonderheit? Die passen ja gar nicht in unsere Zeit, dachte ich mir. Kein Singer-Songwriter-Zeug, kein post-irgendwas Elektro-Pop Bling-Bling und auch nicht eine weitere entrückte Figur á la FKA Twigs, Metric oder Grimes. Einfach eine Rockband mit Gitarren, Bass, Schlagzeug, Keyboard. Whoohoo. Was ist denn da los?

2012 schafften es Houndmouth mit nur einem einzelnen Konzert sofort zum Label Rough Trade. Es folge eine EP und im Jahr 2013 das extrem großartige Album „From the Hills Below the City“, das eigentlich keinen schwachen Song dafür aber ein paar Momente für die Ewigkeit hat. Eine kluge Neuerfindung von Americana: Wild, voller schöner Harmonien, Musik wie frisch geschlagenes Holz.
