Leonardo Leo was one of the most influential Neapolitan baroque composers. It was no surprise that he was appointed as the maestro di cappella in the Royal Court Chapel, the most prominent musical institution in Naples. The recordings on this CD offer a unique selection of sacred works representing Leo’s incredible ability to connect ancient and modern styles and create exceptional music. Soprano Ulrike Hofbauer, along with “ensemble &cetera”, presents a remarkable interpretation of these magnificent works, including two world première recordings: Lezioni del Giovedì Santo and Il figliuol prodigo.
