Info for Landscapes

Yuval Zorn’s debut album is a truly original and fascinating recital crossing continents from the turbulent revolutionary streets of a violent eastern Europe, to exotic birdsong in the south of France, the tense middle east, the vivid contrasts of Brazil and finally to 1732 Leipzig and the quiet contemplative world of J.S Bach’s famous Chorale Prelude transcribed by Busoni.

“The pieces on this album are a reflection of the world of the composer who wrote them, both internal and external. They have all been written in different contexts, different countries, different historical circumstances and different means of pianistic expression, but all of them - each in its own way - represent the composer’s human stance toward that context. This context is what I see as a landscape, not only in the physical sense but in a much broader sense, a landscape that is a mirror of the pattern of one’s internal being” (Yuval Zorn)

Yuval Zorn, piano

Yuval Zorn
is one of the most prominent Israeli conductors of his generation, particularly active in the fields of opera and contemporary music. His work embraces a wide repertoire and his performances have gained him critical acclaim for their sensitivity, energy and richness of detail. Former Kapellmeister at the Frankfurt Opera and former member of the Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, he performed with leading orchestras and ensembles as well as at major festivals in Israel, Europe and America. Recent credits include Werther and Nabucco for the Israeli Opera and amongst his future projects are the world premières of H. Ajashvili's opera Cut Glass at in Tel Aviv, Michele Rusconi’s Hiob on tour with Ensemble Meitar in Switzerland, a concert with Lisette Oropesa at the Teatro Muncipal in Rio de Janeiro, Il barbiere di siviglia at the Israeli Opera and the release of his first solo album LANDSCAPES.

Yuval Zorn is also active as a pianist, and in November 2019 he will release his first solo album LANDSCAPES with Rubicon Classics, an album which will feature works by Messiaen, Villa-Lobos, Janacek and Samir Odeh Tamimi, recorded at the Banff Centre for the Arts and Creativity in Alberta, Canada.

In recent years he dedicates part of his time to education, working regularly with the David Goldmann Programme for outstanding young musicians run by the Mishkenot Sha’ananim Music Centre, with Meitar Ensemble’s TEDARIM and CEME projects for young musicians and teaching conducting at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance serving as Music Director of the Mendi Rodan Symphony Orchestra.
