Stephan Bormann is among the most versatile German guitarists. Following countless CD releases, among others with the likes of Cristin Claas Trio and Hands On Strings, he now presents Over The Years.

His inner closeness to the sounds and rhythms from the U.S., Scandinavia, Africa and Brazil reveal him as a musical world traveler – at home in many styles and familiar with the various facets of the instrument.

The musical aesthetics of a finger stylist can be found in his unique arrangements, along with the approach of a jazz musician, who gives every piece perpetual freshness by allowing room for improvisation.

The wide diversity of possibilities for expression with the instrument sparked his desire to not only play on the widely-known nylon or steel string guitar, but also exotic aliquot, baritone and octave guitars.

The album is, therefore, a tantalizing expedition through the musical universe or as a critic stated: His music lives – each piece of the narrative possesses great depth and never compromises on a certain virtuosity.

Stephan Bormann
zählt zu den "vielsaitigsten" deutschen Gitarristen. Seit 15 Jahren tourt er erfolgreich mit dem Cristin Claas Trio, Hands On Strings, dem 10String Orchestra u.v.a. und ist nun erstmals mit seinem Solo-Programm zur CD „over the years“ live zu erleben.

Bormanns innige Nähe zur Musik Amerikas, Skandinaviens, Afrikas und Brasiliens weisen ihn als Weltreisenden auf der Gitarre aus, gewandt in vielen Stilen und vertraut mit den unterschiedlichsten Facetten des Instruments.

Die Arbeit an seinem Solo Guitar Book (Schott Music) und das euphorische Feedback darauf haben ihn dazu bewegt, die Musik, die ihn über viele Jahre geprägt hat, nun solistisch umzusetzen. Die enorme Vielfalt der Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten verschiedener Gitarren weckten seine Lust, sich neben den "normalen" Nylon- oder Steel String Gitarren auch intensiv den "Exoten" zu widmen: Aliquot-, Bariton- oder Oktav-Gitarren werden von ihm gleichermaßen meisterhaft bespielt. Im Dialog mit seinen Gitarren lässt er wunderbare Klanglandschaften entstehen - eine Reise voller betörender Melodien.

Von 1989 – 2006 arbeitete er als Gitarrendozent an der Universität Magdeburg, von 1998-1999 an der Musikhochschule Leipzig. Er leitet seit 1994 eine Hauptfachklasse an der Hochschule für Musik in Dresden und ist dort Professor für Gitarre Jazz/Rock/Pop. Workshops führten ihn in zahlreiche Städte Deutschlands sowie nach Italien; Österreich und in die USA.
