kommen aus Austin, Texas, sind genauso viele Leute auf der Bühne, wie eine Fußballmannschaft Spieler auf dem Feld hat, und sie sind angepisst. Soziale Missstände in ihrer Heimat, dumme dumme Menschen in autoritären Positionen, zwischenmenschliches Hickhack. You know the drill. Im September 2013 veröffentlichte Grand Hotel van Cleef ihr Album “FOR SALE“ in Deutschland und schickte die Band auf fast einmonatige Europatour. Am Anfang dieser Tour kamen nur gut 30 Leute zum Konzert, am Ende fast zehnmal soviel. Das Feuer war gelegt. Quasi jeder Musikinteressierte, den man unterwegs traf, war begeistert. Die Meute wartet auf neues Futter.

Das gibt es jetzt in Form der Vinyl-EP “THE SUN ALSO RISES“, die Grand Hotel van Cleef am 19.04.2014 zum Record Store Day als 10“ in die Plattenläden bringt. Die EP beinhaltet sechs Stücke, die ECF zwischen den Aufnahmesessions für ihre bisher erschienen Alben aufgenommen haben. Veröffentlicht wurden sie bisher nur in den USA, als DIY-CD verkauft bei den Shows der Band. Zum Record Store Day erscheinen sie also erstmals überhaupt auf Vinyl.

Musikalisch trifft ausufernde Instrumentierung (Streicher, Bläser, Banjo, just to name a few) auf dramatisch inszenierte Songs, die sich in der Qualität keinen Deut hinter den Album-Songs zu verstecken brauchen. Insgesamt ist das ein wenig Tempo höher, als man es vom Wutorchester bisher gewohnt war – aber auch die straighten Rhythmen passen wie die Faust in den Magen auf die Chorgesänge, Mandolinen und Mundharmonikas.
