Violinist Raimund Lissy, member of the Vienna Philharmonic, has long been dedicated to the work of uncovering the works of Austrian composer Joseph Mayseder and make them available to a wider audience. After publishing two recordings with chamber music by the violin virtuoso who was born in 1789 in Vienna, the third volume contains violin concertos by Mayseder. Joined by the newly formed “Joseph Mayseder Orchestra” under the baton of Helmut Zehetner, Lissy presents the concerts for violin and orchestra No. 1 in A minor, Op. 22 (1813) and No. 3 in D major, Op. 28 (1811) as well as the Concertino for violin and orchestra No. 2 in E major, Op. 53 (1835). Raimund Lissy on the typical Mayseder style: Skillfully composed virtuosic passages for the violin alternate with pleasing cantilena, and there is a wealth of successful musical ideas that make rediscovering this music very rewarding.

Raimund Lissy
Born in Vienna in 1966, Raimund Lissy began violin lessons at the age of four. Later he studied with Thomas Kakuska at Wiener Musikhochschule and with Alfred Staar. After some seasons with the orchestra of the Arena di Verona he joined the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera. In 1991 he became a member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. In the same year he took over the position of assistant principal second violins; since 1993 he has been principal of the second violins.

From 2013 Raimund Lissy has been employed at the Wiener Hofmusikkapelle.

As second violin of „Ensemble Wien“ Raimund Lissy is deeply committed to chamber music. With this string quartet formation he has been performing in five concerts annually since 1994 within the cycle of subscription concerts “Freude an Musik” of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in the Brahmssaal of the Musikverein in Vienna, where he has appeared in more than 100 concerts. Moreover, together with Ensemble Wien he has performed in numerous distinguished concert halls in New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Tokyo, Paris or Athens as well as at festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Ravenna Festival and the “Berliner Festspiele”. As a member of this string ensemble he can also be heard in CD recordings for “VMS”, “Koch” and “Erato”. Together with “Ensemble Wien” Raimund Lissy has appeared with artists like Christian Altenburger, José Carreras, Helmut Deutsch, Plácido Domingo, Barbara Frittoli, Nancy Gustafson, Angelika Kirchschlager, Elisabeth Kulman, Helmuth Lohner, Ann Murray, Jessye Norman, Marlis Petersen, Benjamin Schmid, Janis Vakarelis and Stefan Vladar.

As a soloist Raimund Lissy has performed the violin concerts of Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Pleyel and Tchaikovsky accompanied by various orchestras in Vienna and Lower Austria. He has also given sonata recitals.

His CD recordings include works for violin by Reynaldo Hahn (Koch, together with various artists), Ch. Koechlin, G. Tailleferre and F. Poulenc (VMS) with pianist Jan Latham-Koenig, as well as a violin concert by I. Pleyel (Ars; conductor: Johannes Klumpp). Raimund Lissy is specially devoted to the promotion and spreading of the oeuvre of violin virtuoso Joseph Mayseder, who also participated in the first concert of the newly-founded Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1842.

In 2008 he founded the „Lissy Quartet“. With this piano quartet he has performed repeatedly, among others in Gläserner Saal/Magna Auditorium of the Musikverein in 2011, 2012 and 2013. With his “Lissy Quartet” he has performed several world premieres of works for piano quartet by Balduin Sulzer.
