Info for Veluwe Suite

“In summer 2021, I moved from Amsterdam to the edge of Holland’s largest nature reserve called ‘Veluwe’. We wanted to live our lives more in peace and nature and were looking for a less hurried life than in the crowded and busy city. During my daily walks in my new area, the idea soon arose to dedicate a new collection of piano compositions to this beautiful forest. All eight compositions radiate peace in a certain way which I’m always experiencing during my walks in the Veluwe. When I was studying piano, I always found Debussy's piano works a great source of inspiration, and the title Veluwe Suite is also an homage to his Suite Bergamasque. Debussy often used special terms to give music a certain imagination, such as; a lointain, cédez, calme…. I often improvised further in this atmosphere myself. For my ‘Veluwe Suite’, I have invented and added two new terms, just like fidéle and sincère. My wish is that the ‘Veluwe Suite’ can give many listeners a nice dreamy moment. Where one might long for a moment in nature.” (Matteo Myderwyk)

Matteo Myderwyk, piano

Matteo Myderwyk
As a classical pianist at the conservatory, Myderwyk abandoned the music of his heroes Bach, Liszt and Messiaen to develop his own musical vocabulary.

First of all, he decided to throw away the rulebook of classical music altogether, ending up enthralled in the wonderful world of free-jazz. Making music without plan or pre-written composition gave a new creative impulse that pushed the musician’s craft to exciting new directions.

Myderwyk learned his most important lesson in this experimental period; music isn't something written on paper, but materializes in the moment.

This album contains no booklet.
