E.S.T. SYMPHONY

This is a program of exceptional symphonic music featuring compositions of the “Trio of the Decade” (The London Times); the most important, most copied, most influential and style-building jazz band of the Noughties, E.S.T. (Esbjörn Svensson Trio), arranged for symphony orchestra and jazz soloists.

E.S.T.: Esbjörn Svensson (piano), Dan Berglund (bass) and Magnus Öström (drums), together formed E.S.T. (the Esbjörn Svensson Trio) and revolutionized jazz in the Noughties. They became the best selling instrumental jazz band of that decade with sales of over a million albums, headlining festivals on all continents. Then, Esbjörn Svensson, the eponym of the group, died in a scuba-diving accident in June 2008, which brought the rise of the group to a sudden halt. By then they had recorded and released 13 albums and one concert DVD and had performed numerous shows around the globe.

As early as 2003 Esbjörn Svensson himself had arranged e.s.t. music for concerts of his trio accompanied by chamber orchestra and soloists. Performances of that program at the Jazz Baltica Festival and in Istanbul were highlights of the concert season. Those original arrangements of Esbjörn Svensson are the inspiration of the “e.s.t. Symphony” arranged by Hans Ek.

The music for this program has been arranged for a regular size symphony orchestra, enlarged by a jazz rhythm section (piano, bass, drums) and soloists.
