Info for You Loved Me Then

YOU LOVED ME THEN, David Harris' erstes Album mit eigenen Songs seit über 30 Jahren, spiegelt seine vielseitige musikalische Reise wider.

David Harris
was born and raised in Kalamazoo MI to parents who loved the arts. He began listening to his father’s record collection, falling in love with the Romantic composers at age 3. After much begging, his parents acceded to piano lessons for Harris starting in first grade. Initially, he had to walk to the college where his father taught to use their piano for practice until his parents were sure that he wasn’t going to quit lessons and leave them stuck with a piano.

Earliest musical loves also included The Beatles, The Doors, and Stevie Wonder. In his teens he discovered Monk, Mingus, Coltrane and other jazz greats, soon followed by Shorter, Jarrett, and Jobim.

David has performed in the United States and Europe with Arnett Cobb, Don Cherry, and Okay Temiz, among others. His first album of original material, The View From Morning, featured saxophonist Kirk Whalum and flutist Tony Campise.

Paul English
is well-known to Texas audiences as an outstanding jazz pianist who has performed and recorded with such greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Arnett Cobb, David Liebman, David “Fathead” Newman, Bud Shank, Mark O’Connor and John Patitucci. Alumni of the high-spirited Paul English Group of the 1980’s include Kirk Whalum, Dwight Sills, Tony Campise, Tod Vullo, Herman Matthews, Tim Harris, Tom Cummings and Hal Robinson.

A native Texan and longtime Houston resident, Paul enjoys performing locally with his various jazz and classical crossover groups: PICO (Paul’s Improvising Chamber Orchestra), PIVO (Paul’s Improvising Vocal Orchestra), The Paul English Jazz Quartet, et al. His jazz groups of the 1980s were a vital part of a vibrant jazz scene in Houston and were instrumental in the establishment of most of the successful jazz venues at that time and since. Currently he tours internationally with his Touring Jazz Quartet, as a solo artist and with his crossover group, PICO.
