"The Book Of Souls" von Iron Maiden. Es wurde Ende 2014 in Paris mit ihrem langjährigen Produzenten Kevin "Caveman" Shirley aufgenommen und Anfang des Jahres fertiggestellt. Die Band entschloss sich jedoch, die Veröffentlichung zunächst zurückzuhalten, sodass Bruce Dickinson, der kürzlich einen Tumor besiegte, genug Zeit für seine Genesung haben würde, um bei den Vorbereitungen für die Albumankündigung dabei sein zu können.

Die beeindruckende Cover-Art wurde kreiert von Mark Wilkinson, mit dem die Band bereits zuvor zusammenarbeitete. Da das 11 Tracks umfassende Album insgesamt 92 Minuten lang ist, ist es zugleich erste Doppel-Studioalbum der Band überhaupt. Das Songwriting wurde breiter angelegt als auf den vorherigen Maiden-Alben: Bassist und Gründungsmitglied Steve Harris trägt zu sieben der Tracks bei, sechs davon gemeinsam mit den Maiden-Gitarristen und eine alleinige Komposition. Es ist außerdem das erste Mal seit "Powerslave" (1984), dass Iron Maiden ein Studioalbum aufgenommen haben, das zwei ausschließlich von Bruce Dickinson geschriebene Tracks enthält; einer davon ist der längste Song, den Maiden je aufgenommen haben. Ferner gibt es zwei Dickinson / Smith-Kollaborationen.

Steve Harris kommentiert: "Wir haben uns diesem Album anders genähert, als wir bisher aufgenommen haben. Viele der Songs wurden tatsächlich geschrieben, während wir im Studio waren, und wir haben sie geprobt und gleich aufgenommen, während sie noch frisch waren. Ich denke, diese Direktheit merkt man den Songs an, sie haben fast ein Live-Feeling, wie ich finde. Ich bin sehr stolz auf 'Book Of Souls', wir alle sind es. Und wir können es nicht erwarten, bis unsere Fans es hören können und besonders, es nächstes Jahr auf Tour zu bringen."

Bruce Dickinson schließt an: "Wir sind begeistert von 'The Book Of Souls' und hatten eine fantastische Zeit, als wir es kreierten. Wir haben im Spätsommer 2014 mit der Arbeit am Album begonnen und es in den Guillame Tell Studios in Paris aufgenommen, wo wir das 'Brave New World'-Album 2000 gemacht hatten. Das Studio ruft daher in jedem von uns besondere Erinnerungen wach. Und wir freuten uns umso mehr zu entdecken, dass der selbe magische Vibe immer noch am Leben ist, und wie! Wir fühlten uns augenblicklich zu Hause und die Ideen flossen nur so. Am Ende waren wir uns einig, dass jeder Track so sehr ein wesentlicher Bestandteil des Ganzen war, dass wir dachten: Wenn es ein Doppelalbum sein will, dann ist es ein Doppelalbum.

Iron Maiden
was formed in the year 1976 by bassist Steve Harris. They released their first album in 1980 as a five piece band with Paul Di’Anno on vocals. Later, Bruce Dickinson replaced him in 1981. With several line-up changes Steve Harris would remain the only original member never to have had a hiatus. When Bruce Dickinson quit in 1994 and was replaced by Wolfsbane’s Blaze Bayley, the band lost a lot of their fanbase. They recorded two albums with Blaze before Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith returned to the fold for 2000’s “Brave New World”, and 2003’s “Dance of Death”, making them a six-piece. As of 1999 the line-up hasn’t changed. Here’s the biography of this popular band.

Known for such powerful hits as “Two Minutes to Midnight” and “The Trooper,” Iron Maiden were and are one of the most influential bands of the heavy metal genre. The often-imitated band has existed for over nearly four decades, pumping out wild rock similar to Judas Priest. Iron Maiden have always been an underground attraction; although failing to ever obtain any real media attention in the U.S. (critics claimed them to be Satanists due to their dark musical themes and their use of grim mascot “Eddie”), they still became well-known throughout the world and have remained consistently popular throughout their career. Iron Maiden were one of the first groups to be classified as “British metal,” and, along with Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and a host of other bands, set the rock scene for the ’80s.
