„Affection“ heißt der erste Vorbote aus dem dritten Studioalbum „Philophobia“ von Amber Run. Der neue Track, der Anfang des Jahres im Rahmen ihrer Album-Session aufgenommen wurde, ist schonungslos ehrlich und damit einer der bis dato persönlichsten Songs von Amber Run. Sänger Joe Keogh erklärt: “I hope after people have heard the record they feel closer to the band. Gone are the days where we feel angry to the point of pushing people away. We want to draw people in and keep them close. In the hope we could have a shared experience.” Das dritte Studioalbum von Amber Run „Philophobia“ beschäftigt sich mit Philophobie – die Angst vor der Liebe. Ganz egal ob platonisch oder romantisch, unerwidert, bedingungslos oder hässlich: jeder Mensch erfährt eine Form von Zuwendung. Im Idealfall ist diese Form Liebe – von einem Elternteil, seinem Kind oder Partner -, die dir einen Sinn gibt. Ein Gefühl, das dazu führt, dass du dich vollständiger und vollkommener fühlst, als du es je für möglich gehalten hast. Liebe kann das Leben lebenswert machen. Gleichzeitig kann Liebe dich aber auch in den Abgrund stürzen und schlichtweg gänzlich zerstören.

Dieser Konflikt, der empfindliche Drahtseilakt zwischen den beiden Extremen, ist, was Amber Run auf ihrem dritten Studioalbum „Philophobia“ ergründen. Festgehalten auf 10 wunderschönen, und zugleich sinnierenden, in sich gehenden und selbst-reflektierenden Songs. Wenngleich Philophobie – die Angst vor der Liebe – das zentrale Kernthema der neuen Platte des Trios aus Nottingham ist, so erkunden Leadsänger Joe Keogh, Bassist Tom Sperring und Keyboarder Henry Wyeth auf „Philophobia“ menschliche Zuwendung in all seinen vielen verschiedenen, komplexen Facetten und Formen. Dabei schaffen es Amber Run, diese komplexe Thematik zu einem Tornado aus Emotionen und Gefühlen zusammenzubringen. Somit ist das neue Album „Philophobia“ eine tiefgehende und zugleich fast schon philosophische Exkursion, die sich mit den Auswirkungen von Liebe und Zuwendung auf eine Person in all seinen Facetten – sei es positive oder negativ, schädlich oder stärkend – intensiv auseinandersetzt. So schwebt auch der erste, neue Song-Vorbote „Affection“ mit einer natürlichen Anmut daher, und es dauert nicht lange, bis man sich in Keogh‘s herzzerreißende Stimme wiederfindet: „love to me has been as bad as good“, „love can be as deaf as it is blind.“

Amber Run returned in 2017 with sophomore album For A Moment, I Was Lost, sparking sold out headline shows across the UK and Europe. Released to wide-spread critical acclaim, their second album is a raw, deeply introspective album with rich electronic textures.

Whether platonic or romantic, unrequited, unconditional or ugly, every human experiences some kind of love to some degree. At its very best, love – whether from a parent or child or a partner – can give you purpose. It can make you feel more whole and complete than you ever thought possible. It can make life worth living. At the same time, it can totally and utterly destroy you. That conflict – and the delicate balance between the two – is something that Amber Run explore thoroughly on the 10 beautiful, soul-searching songs that make up Philophobia, their third record. Yet while that aversion is the central focus the new record from the Nottingham trio – consisting of lead vocalist Joe Keogh, bassist Tom Sperring and keyboardist Henry Wyeth – its songs also explore the nature of love in all its many different, complex facets and forms to bring that complex tornado of emotions and feelings to life.
