Jazz und Post Rock, gewürzt mit Elektronik-Elementen - das ist die Erfolgsformel des instrumentalen Londoner Jazztrios Troyka. Hammondorgel-Spieler Kit Downes (wurde schon mal für den Mercury Award nominiert), Gitarrist Chris Montague und Schlagzeuger Josh Blackmore sind weitaus mehr als die Summe ihrer Teile und definitiv keins der üblichen Hammondorgel-Trios. 'Ornithophobia' ist ihr drittes Album, das erste für das Label Naim Jazz.

Die Einflüsse reichen von Tim Berne über Aphex Twin und Deerhoof bis Albert King und Flying Lotus, die Musik ist intensiv, ambitioniert, ja fast umstürzlerisch. Unvorhersehbare, aber dennoch mitreißende Melodien gehören seit jeher zum Markenzeichen der Band, hinzu kommen jetzt noch polyrhythmischer Post-Dance, eindringlicher Trip-Hop und atmosphärischer Post Rock, die dem Album zu einem sensationellen Sound verhelfen. Produziert hat das Ganze Petter Eldh in Berlin, der Schwede hat sehr zu diesem außergewöhnlichen Klangerlebnis beigetragen. Der Titel 'Ornithophobia' bezieht sich übrigens auf die Vogelangst des Gitarristen Chris Montague.

Troyka
are Chris Montague (guitars and loops), Joshua Blackmore (drums) and Kit Downes (organ), three young musicians based in London whose intense live shows have seen them hotly tipped to follow in the foot steps of Polar Bear & Portico Quartet & become the next young band to explode from the capital’s fertile jazz scene.

A multi-textured trio with a febrile imagination where no role is pre-defined, their music twists and mutates in an ongoing dialogue inspired by a shared love of Aphex Twin, the angular world of iconclastic New York saxophonist Tim Berne and the blues-jazz-rock groove of legendary Steely Dan and Billy Cobham guitarist Wayne Krantz.
