The Brides of Funkenstein
The legendary Brides of Funkenstein will be making a midnight appearance at Whiskey's A Go-Go in West Hollywood on Friday, November 4th 2011. The Brides of Funkenstein started when Sly & The Family Stone's back up singers, Lynn Mabry and Dawn Silva, broke off from the group to be produced by George Clinton as a female version of Parliament Funkadelic in the 70's. Their voices are behind such hits as "Flashlight!," "One Nation Under A Groove," "Knee Deep" "Aqua Boogie" and "Atomic Dog," notorious songs that are the seminal reference of funk music. In 1978, the ladies' debut album Funk or Walk sold 300,000 albums in the first week, reaching number 7 on the R&B charts and beating out The Pointer Sisters and Sister Sledge for Record World Best Female Group award. Their mega-hit "Disco To Go" instantly went gold in the US, and platinum in Europe and Asia. When Lynn left the group in 1979, Dawn carried on with the help of singers Sheila Horne and Jeanette McGruder. Their album, "Never Buy Texas From a Cowboy" is on Rolling Stone's list of Top 100 Coolest Albums Ever Released, and received great acclaim in its time; their music has stayed alive and has set the precipice for all other artists in the funk genre.

Since the Brides officially divorced nearly 30 years ago, Dawn Silva in 2000 released her debut CD entitled (AMFF) All My Funky Friends; another acclaimed album that earned the funk diva 5 star reviews in Europe, Asia, North America and The United States. Showcasing her writing and production skills, AMFF was stated to be the only authenic Funk CD to drop in the new millennium. Dawn's body shaking album reintroduced her to funk fans who rejoiced, threw up regulatory p-funk signs as they danced in a blissful state of euphoria. Dawn grouped with new bridesmaids drew a large college audience in the summer of 2010 at the LongBeach Funk Festival, driving the crowd into a frenzy of funk, belting classic P-Funk tunes straight from the divas who gave the genre a powerful new dimension in girl power. Now Dawn is gearing up to bring the Brides back to the altar, and this ceremony is no small ordeal. Fueled by a desire to project full-force female ferocity, stage play, energy, and unforgettable tunes, the Brides are planning to relaunch their career this year. The ladies have selected an intimate and legendary venue, Whiskey's A Go Go, to get the vibe right. With tickets at a friendly $15, on Friday, November 4th, Whiskey A Go Go will be hosting the hottest party in Hollywood.
