Info for On The Inside

The Leeds instrumental crew have worked with some stellar artists, establishing their own ultra-chilled take on future soul. A run of singles have seen Gotts Street Park work with Charlotte Dos Santos – on the angelic ‘Lost & Found’ – and Rosie Lowe, alongside their excellent 2021 EP ‘Diego’.

Debut album ‘On The Inside’ is out on October 13th through Blue Flowers, with further guests including Flikka and ENNY. Pip Millett voices enchanting new single ‘Got To Be Good’, a precocious dose of alt-soul that pivots between classic tropes and superb creative ideas.

Discussing the collaboration, Gotts Street Park comment: “’Got To Be Good’, came together pretty fast. Whenever we’ve been in the room with Pip, it’s pretty free and fruitful. When a song comes together like this, we don’t overthink it or alter the final take too much and just hope to have the same energy come through to the listener as we felt in the room creating it.”

Pip Millett sculpts the lyrics, which discuss the capacity for internal change. She says: “’Got To Be Good’ is about pulling yourself out of the darkness. You have to really want for a change in order to pull away from that sadness, and that’s what I was writing about.”

The group was formed in Leeds by Josh Crocker (bass, production), Tom Henry (keys) and Joe Harris (guitar). What began as an outlet for their shared love for sixties Motown, soon became a jewel in the Yorkshire scene’s creative crown, with millions of Spotify streams to their name and some of hip-hop and pop’s most exciting emerging voices requesting collaborations: Celeste, Kali Uchis, Cosima and Rejjje Snow are just a few of the acts the band have individually written/produced for.

Gotts Street Park

Gotts Street Park
The Leeds-based trio, comprised of producer/writers Josh Crocker (bass, production), Tom Henry (keys) and Joe Harris (guitar), met through Leeds flourishing live music circuit, playing in and around local bands and venues.

Individually, they have produced and written for the likes of Kali Uchis, Yellow Days, Celeste and Mabel. Combining on their shared love for “The idea of doing things live in one room”, the creation and recording of a song – a group of players walking into a room with nothing, and exiting with something life-altering – still, after 70-odd years of pop music, retains unrivalled magic.

The approach is a deliberate callback to the methods made famous by legendary studios like Sun and Stax in Memphis, or FAME and Muscle Shoals in Alabama, and their in-house bands.

Combined also with a shared love of movie soundtracks and film scores, Gotts Street Park are taking these ideas and techniques forward. Giving them a modern feel and texture, whilst collaborating with some of the most exciting new vocalists out there.
