Info for Red Sun Titans

Acclaimed London four-piece Gengahr return with the news of their highly-anticipated fourth album Red Sun Titans, plus a brand-new single 'In The Moment', along with news of a UK headline tour through the Autumn.

Red Sun Titans will mark the band’s first full length release since Sanctuary [2020] and sets Gengahr on an exciting new trajectory. Having passed through the happy-to-be-here phase of debut album A Dream Outside [2015] and traversed the baggage of adversity and tragedy that underpinned Where Wildness Grows [2018] and Sanctuary, Red Sun Titans sees the band wrestle free from those energies to set sail anew.

Entering the studio with Matt Glasbey (alt-J, Coldplay) producing and mixing - with executive production by Charlie Andrew (Wolf Alice, London Grammar, Bloc Party, all three alt-J albums) – the band saw a chance to revisit the origins of where their creativity came from. The album developed out of self-analysis and resultingly is one of two distinct sides: one a naive counterpart longing to exist in a simpler state, and another about checking your ego and coming to terms with great loss. Red Sun Titans sits at that crossroads where the past is still in view and to be learned from, but the future is there for the taking. It’s the ambitious, unrestrained and widescreen statement Gengahr have always threatened to make.

To mark the announcement, the band have also shared a new single titled 'In The Moment'. A sleek and groove-heavy taste of the band’s new material, the single toys with spacious indie-pop instrumentation that carries a subtle funk inflection propping up Bushe’s hook-heavy vocal lines.

Speaking on the single, Bushe says, “‘In The Moment’ reflects upon the necessity to break away from our daily routine and create meaningful memories. As much as sunny days and laughter with friends, 'In The Moment’ celebrates the late hours without inhibition, where dreams lead and tomorrow lingers."

The single is also accompanied video shot on location in Mallorca using just one iPhone and featuring two of Bushe’s childhood friends - Billy (director) and Casper (stylist and location scout). The video was entirely improvised by the trio and features a backdrop salvaged from a Gucci campaign that Casper worked on, with Bushe wearing a suit that was tailor made for Brad Pitt in the feature film ‘The Councillor’.

"Blissed out melodies to that plaintive melancholic ache" - Clash

"Boldly expansive and electrifyingly curious" - Dork

"Endless earworm choruses across myriad styles" - Mojo

"Warped, wobbly notes and tones, fidgety guitars and a trademark falsetto" - NME

"Gengahr have never been short of tunes" - Uncut

Gengahr
Born out of a desire to create something fresh and unique to them, Gengahr are a true gem and a group waiting to be discovered. They formed at school in North London in 2013 and released their debut album, A Dream Outside in June 2015 to widespread critical acclaim.

The output to date feels utterly timeless and yet genuinely refreshing, Gengahr create effortlessly smooth and melodic indie-rock that meanders along a laidback sun-kissed path. With a sound that could easily stem from influences drawn from icons such as The Smiths and Modest Mouse, to the more recently revered Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Youth Lagoon, Gengahr have already received support from Huw Stephens, NME, DIY and host of peers.

'If it wasn’t for our manager, we’d have given away everything we’ve ever done for free and only played gigs just round the corner from my house,’ says Felix Bushe, lead singer and guitarist with melodic indie-rockers Gengahr.

But in East City Management they have found a supportive family network that’s as important for advising the band about what they shouldn’t do, as much as for what they should.

‘Instead of saying yes to everything it’s been more about mapping out the route we should take. They know when to be cautious and when not,’ Felix continues.

For Gengahr, it’s an approach that has served them well. With influences that span Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Youth Lagoon, to Modest Mouse and MGMT, the quartet has a knack for creating instant indie classics.

A debut single release on Transgressive last autumn helped to create a buzz for their smooth, sun-kissed indie, while playing at choice festivals including Latitude and Festival No. 6 brought their sound to a wider audience.
