This summer marks the trio’s first U.S. appearances since their debut tour in 2019, where they received widespread praise for their “fresh and cohesive sensitivity and superb technical polish” (Boston Classical Review). These three longtime musical collaborators and friends are masters at the top of their crafts, not to be missed.

For the new recording of Felix Mendelssohn's piano trios, violinist Joshua Bell has once again teamed up with his long-time colleagues - cellist Steven Isserlis and pianist Jeremy Denk. The new recording follows the album ‘For the Love of Brahms’, which was released by Sony Classical in 2018 and was also a collaboration between Bell, Isserlis and Denk. Joshua Bell says of the new Mendelssohn piano trio recording: ‘Steven Isserlis and Jeremy Denk have been my favourite chamber music partners for decades. They bring a seemingly boundless imagination and extraordinary musical intelligence to every work I've had the pleasure of exploring with them. The two trios - No. 1 in D minor, op. 49 (1839) and No. 2 in C minor, op. 66 (1845) - are among the composer's masterpieces. In the booklet text, Steven Isserlis quotes Robert Schumann's conviction - written shortly after the premiere of his friend's Piano Trio No. 1 - that ‘Mendelssohn... has risen so high that we may dare to say that he is the Mozart of the nineteenth century, the brightest of musicians, the one who of all looks most clearly through the contradictions of the time and reconciles us to them’.

Joshua Bell
With a career spanning almost four decades, GRAMMY® Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell is one of the most celebrated artists of his era. Bell has performed with virtually every major orchestra, and maintains engagements as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, conductor and as the Music Director of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

Bell has been nominated for six GRAMMY® awards, was named “Instrumentalist of the Year” by Musical America, deemed a “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum, received the Avery Fisher Prize, and was named an “Indiana Living Legend” in 2000.

Steven Isserlis
British cellist Steven Isserlis CBE enjoys an international career as a soloist, chamber musician, author, educator, and broadcaster. Equally at home in music from baroque to the present day, he performs with the world’s greatest orchestras, including period ensembles, and has given many world premieres, including Sir John Tavener’s The Protecting Veil, Thomas Adès’s Lieux retrouvés, four works for solo cello by György Kurtág, and pieces by Holliger, Widmann, Mustonen, and many others. His vast award-winning discography includes most of the cello repertoire, including the JS Bach suites (Gramophone Instrumental Album of the Year), Beethoven’s complete works for cello and piano, the Brahms double concerto with Joshua Bell and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and Grammy-nominated recordings of Haydn and Martinů.

Jeremy Denk
is one America’s foremost pianists, hailed by The New York Times as an artist “you want to hear no matter what he performs.” Denk is also a New York Times bestselling author, winner of both the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship and the Avery Fisher Prize, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Denk has performed multiple times at Carnegie Hall ,and in recent years has worked with such orchestras as Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and Cleveland Orchestra. Recent highlights include his extensive performances of the Well-Tempered Klavier Book 1, and performances of John Adams’ “Must the Devil Have All the Great Tunes?” with the Cleveland Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, and Seattle Symphony.
