It was literally "highly virtuosic" when the great composers of the 18th century brought together solo soprano and clarinet trumpet in glorious praise of God.

Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen is a prominent example of this.

That his courtly colleagues Jan Dismas Zelenka in Dresden and Christoph Graupner in Darmstadt were just as imaginative and effective when composing for their best interpreters is demonstrated by the ensemble Harmonie Universelle with Magdalene Harer (soprano) and Hannes Rux (trumpet) in the breathtaking solo parts.

Magdalene Harer German-born Soprano Magdelene Harer excels in a variety of music styles. She appears on the international stage performing repertoire spanning seven centuries, in oratorio, song and chamber music.

Under the baton of Konrad Junghänel, Jarosław Thiel, Raphaël Pichon, Alexander Liebreich, Paul van Nevel, Philippe Herreweghe, Peter Neumann, Hermann Max and Jörg Straube, she has given concerts in many of Europe’s most prestigious venues, including Koelner Philharmonie, International House of Music (Moscow), National Forum of Music (Wroclaw), Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (Moscow), and National Theatre (Sarajevo).

Magdalene’s current focus is ensemble and consort singing and she regularly appears with some of Europe’s most celebrated period ensembles, such as Cantus Coelln, Collegium Vocale Gent, Huelgas Ensemble, Ensemble Pygmalion and ensemble polyharmonique.

Equally at home on the solo platform, she has appeared with numerous orchestras, among them Concerto Köln, Lautten Compagney Berlin, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Göttinger Symphonieorchestrer, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, Neue Düsseldorfer Hofmusik, Münchener Kammerorchester and others.

Hans-Martin Rux
(born 1965) studied modern trumpet with Prof. Edmund Buschinger at the Düsseldorf College of Music, and historical trumpet with Friedemann Immer at the Cologne College of Music. This was followed by graduate studies in historical performance practice in Hilversum.

Already during his studies, Hans-Martin Rux dedicated himself almost exclusively to the Baroque natural trumpet on which he is today one of the most sought-after performers. As a regular member of Concerto Köln, and first call for ensembles such as La Stagione, Il Complesso Barocco, Musica Antiqua Köln, Das kleine Konzert, and Musica Fiata, Hans-Martin Rux is at home in numerous internationally renowned ensembles for early music. He is also a regular guest with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Tafelmusik Toronto, San Francisco’s Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, the Orquestra Barocca di Sevilla, Il Fondamento, etc.

In the course of his musical activities, Hans-Martin Rux has already participated in over a hundred CD recordings, including the famous Telemann Concerto with Camerata Köln, sonatas by Schmelzer and Biber with Music Fiata, as well as many of Bach’s major works, including the Second Brandenburg Concerto on several occasions, e.g. with the French ensemble “Café Zimmermann.”
