Info for Mendelssohn: Piano Trios Nos. 1 & 2

The two Trios for piano, violin and cello by Mendelssohn are masterpieces of Romanticism. The form “piano trio” provides a perfect balance for the palette of sounds of the three instruments. The virtuosity of the piano mingles effortlessly with the string‘s passionate and fiery strains. The Trio Carlo Van Neste is passionate about this music in which the luminosity, the complicity and the perfect understanding of the performers shines through. The palette of sounds is harmonious and elegant, the new and fresh colours range from the darkest to the most sparkling, a sheer delight for the performers. Two brilliant works which exude a genuine desire to please and share, where one can observe fragility and power, love and hate, drama and sarcasm, ferocity and subtlety...

Carlo Van Neste Trio
The Carlo Van Neste Trio is made up of three Belgian musicians of international renown: Karin Lechner (piano), Maya Levy (violin) and Alexandre Debrus (cello). The Trio was named after the famous keyboard Trio Carlo Van Neste, which subsequently became known as the Queen Elisabeth of Belgium Trio. At the time it was composed of Naum Slusny (piano), Carlo Van Neste (violin) and d’Eric Feldbusch (cello). Right from its birth in 2005, the Carlo Van Neste Trio performed in Siberia, at the Novossibirsk Festival and in Berdsk, where they triggered a passionate reaction from the Russian audience. Upon their return, they gave a concert performance at the Brussels Royal Conservatory of Music, which firmly established their connection with the Belgian audience.

Based in Brussels, they have been singled out both for their lively and passionate interpretations as well as for the daring creativity with which they’ve reinterpreted works from the great piano trio repertoire. The Carlo Van Neste Trio performs regularly in Belgium, Holland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, the United States, Russia, Argentina and Japan. Maya Levy is playing with with a “Gagliano” (XVIII century), whereas Alexandre Debrus plays with a Georges Heynberg de 1934 “Pegasus”, which belonged to the Belgian cellist Eric Feldbusch. This is the cello player from the original Carlo Van Neste Trio. The Carlo Van Neste Trio is presently working on several recording projects and has published three CD’s under the label “Pavane Records”. An album dedicated to Czech music which brought together Antonín Dvorák’s “Dumky” Trio, and the Bedrich Smetana Trio, an album dedicated to german music which brought together Ludwig van Beethoven Trio n° 5 Opus 70 n°1 “Ghost”, and the Johannes Brahms Trio n°1 Opus 8 and a CD devoted to of Astor Piazzolla’s Tangos.
