Echo Sounder is a 5 track live recording EP that I completed for the third time, in close cooperation with the bassist, composer and producer Mario Ehrenberg-Kempf. We shared all the moments with a wonderful audience following us with so-called “silent-disco” headphones following our performance last September in Burgdorf near Hannover. Til von Dombois recorded us and Chiara Bon took over the video recording and production parts (link). Arne Neurand from the great Horus Studio in Hannover mixed our tracks and Hervé Jeanne managed the mastering. The Production also comprises the track “Echolot” based on a poem from Ludwig Westarp.

“…Somewhat shaken by the cancellation of the 2020 tour, Mario and I decided to bring new compositions on the road – but where does the journey go? We were aiming for groove, suitability for live performances, a more raw feel and deep resonance. So I took my bigger 20” bass drum and a dirty 16” hi-hat. We wanted to do a few things differently.

But in the end, surprisingly, we found that it still had the essential Fire Orange sound. And that was perfect. I am grateful for the help of the GVL (Neustart Kultur) and thrilled about Stephan’s contribution to percussion and live electronics. A dream came true for Mario and me with the live audio and video recording of our new tracks featuring a fabulous band with Markus and Florian. It was the right decision to take this step – also thanks to your support. This gave us wings. The moments of the session are still present, echoing, now quite real…” (Konstantin Septinus)

The Fire Orange Project
stammt ursprünglich aus Raum Hannover und wurde von dem Schlagzeuger und Komponisten Konstantin Septinus ins Leben gerufen. Seit 2018 lebt Konstantin in Hamburg. 2019 war er auf den Pinneberger SummerJazz unter den Preisträgern. Nun stellt er hier sein eigenes Projekt vor - Musik, die der gebürtige Berliner in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Bassist, Komponist und Arrangeur Mario Ehrenberg-Kempf entwickelt hat.

Vielfältigkeit ist das besondere Attribut ihrer Arrangements: die Kombination akustischer und elektrischer Sounds, nie rastend, immer in Bewegung, auf der Suche nach neuen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten. Trotzdem bleibt alles im Einklang mit sich selbst – eben auf dem Weg zu fernen Horizonten, zu neuen Ufern.

The Fire Orange Project präsentieren in Pinneberg ihr spannendes, kurzweiliges Album Offshore Horizons mit Kompositionen von Konstantin Septinus & Mario Ehrenberg-Kempf, „zwei musikalischen Querdenkern mit einem feinen Gespür für durchdachtes, cleveres Songwriting“, wie der NDR findet. Der wunderbare Pianist Markus Horn und der Gitarrist und Klangexperte Florian Pöschko komplettieren auch jetzt die Band.

Filigrane Details wechseln mit harten Schlägen und Zäsuren, zunächst wild, aufbrausend, im nächsten Moment weich und lieblich – „Junge Musiker, die gerade angesetzt haben, die Welt für sich zu erobern“, so das Kommentar auf HR2 Jazzgroove zur gelungenen Verbindung von akustischem Jazz mit modernem Groove.
