Info for Märchenerzählungen

A musical journey from Denmark to Germany and Switzerland with Filipa Nunes, clarinet, Maria Clement, viola and Kateryna Tereshchenko, piano.

The Eiger Trio was founded in 2020 by Filipa Nunes, Maria Clement and Kateryna Tereshchenko after many years together. The search for a musical identity and the special nature of this line-up unites the three instrumentalists from very different backgrounds.

Since Mozart's famous Kegelstatt Trio in 1786, composers such as Schumann, Bruch, Francaix and Kurtag have repeatedly written works for these instruments, allowing them to blend the dark timbre of the clarinet and viola with the piano in a marvellous way.

Trio Eiger

Trio Eiger
founded in 2020, consists of three musicians: Filipa Nunes, clarinet, Maria Clément, viola, and Kateryna Tereshchenko, piano, who all joined the Zurich Opera House Orchestra in 2013. United by their love for chamber music, three have played together in a wide variety of formations, and found a trio of clarinet viola and piano, that may seem unexpected at first glance, as the viola and clarinet are more or less in the same register, particularly appealing. Numerous composers from different eras have written works for this instrumentation, from most famous Kegelstatt Trio of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to György Kurtág, whose Hommage à R. Sch was written in 1990. Many of them refer to Schumann and his work Märchenerzählungen as Schumann’s fairy tales wonderfully demonstrate the unexpectedly wide range of timbral possibilities offered by this combination of instruments.
