Info for The New Order (2024 Remaster)

Testament are proud to announce an explosive celebration of the band’s enduring legacy and their influential presence in the thrash metal scene. On July 12th, Testament will release the remastered versions of their seminal albums The Legacy & The New Order.

Chuck Billy states, “When The Legacy and The New Order were first recorded we were new and had limited resources to record the albums being a young band. Now, with the remastering, fans will hear the albums in their signature sonic onslaught they were intended to be heard.”

"We barely got done with our first couple of tours on that first album cycle when we were informed we have to have another album, soon! [...] We got spooked in a way, because we never had to come up with music on the fly. [...] By the time we finally recorded the album, we neglected to look at our recording contract. We actually had it in our contract that there's a minimum of 40 minutes of music, and we clocked in under that! [...] Our album was promptly sent back...we added the Aerosmith tune, we added those little instrumentals, we extended a couple of sections...that was all done so we wouldn't be in breach of contract." — Alex Skolnick, 2013 via Metal Injection.

The New Order is the second studio album by American thrash metal band Testament. It was released on May 5, 1988, by Atlantic Records. This highly influential album showcases Testament's signature sound and solidifies their place in the thrash metal genre.

With The New Order, Testament delivers a relentless onslaught of heavy riffs, blistering guitar solos, and thunderous drumming. The album features powerful and aggressive vocals from lead singer Chuck Billy, who brings a raw intensity to each track. The lyrics explore themes of war, politics, and personal struggles, adding depth to the already intense music.

One of the standout tracks on The New Order is "Disciples of the Watch," which has become a fan favorite over the years. Its catchy chorus and memorable guitar hooks make it an instant classic in the thrash metal scene. Other notable tracks include "The Preacher," "Into the Pit," and "Trial by Fire," all of which showcase Testament's ability to create fast-paced and adrenaline-fueled songs.

The production quality on The New Order is top-notch, allowing every instrument to shine through with clarity and power. The guitar work of Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson is particularly impressive, with their intricate solos and harmonies adding a melodic element to the aggressive sound.

Overall, The New Order is a must-have for any fan of thrash metal or Testament. Its combination of relentless energy, skilled musicianship, and thought-provoking lyrics make it a timeless classic in the genre. Whether you're discovering it for the first time or revisiting it as a longtime fan, this album will leave you craving more from this legendary band.

The New Order was the album that broke Testament into the thrash metal mainstream, back by its only single "Trial by Fire" which featured a music video, as did the cover of Aerosmith's "Nobody's Fault".[citation needed] This success would only grow with their next album Practice What You Preach. The New Order was also the first Testament album to enter the Billboard 200, reaching number 136 on that chart. It was also the band's first album to include an instrumental track. The album contains many songs that the band still plays live to this day including "Into the Pit", "The Preacher", "The New Order", "Disciples of the Watch", and "Trial by Fire". "Into the Pit", "The New Order", and "Disciples of the Watch" are among Testament's most frequently performed songs; all three of which have been played live over 600 times with the former of the three being their most played song live.
