Grammy-nominated singer BJ The Chicago Kid has announced his new collaborative album with producer Yeti Beats, Gravy. It will be served Nov. 10th 2023.
“Gravy smothers, covers, and makes everything taste better. The album Gravy is the persona of what the new cool is. It’s that feeling when you’re at your absolute best, got on your best clothes, exuding confidence in every step and word,” says BJ The Chicago Kid.
He adds, “This project embodies the very essence of how you carry yourself, how you assert your authority, and how you rise to the occasion. In essence, it’s the soul of the music, and in turn, the music becomes the gravy that defines me.”
"Gravy" was recorded with a live band at Royal Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, the hallowed home of soul legend Al Green. The ’70s mellow grooves of Al Green served as a profound inspiration for the album’s overarching sonic identity. Remarkably, BJ and Yeti, along with their live band, The Indications, managed to bring this album to life in less than a week’s time. Yeti Beats’s distinctive production seamlessly blends vintage soul and pop elements. When describing the project, BJ said, “Gravy smothers, covers, and makes everything taste better. BJ is a singer/songwriter from Chicago who has worked with major artists, including singing on Kanye West’s song “Impossible,” which was featured in the movie 'Mission: Impossible III.' He's also done many collaborations with members of Top Dawg Entertainment: Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and Schoolboy Q, as well as other artists Big K.R.I.T., Warren G, Freddie Gibbs, Problem, and Twista, amongst others.
