Info for Night Music

The composer and pianist Vitalii Kyianytsia, born in 1991 in the Ukrainian capital Kiev, is one of those border crossers who combine the voices working within them with great taste and flair to create fascinating overall phenomena. The 31-year-old has lived in Germany since 2017 and studied with the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt am Main and the British pianist Nicolas Hodges in Stuttgart. Over the years, Vitalii Kyianytsia has given his love of improvisation more and more space until he has mutated into an enthusiastic and inspiring "jazzer" - but one who denies neither his classical training nor his close relationship with the great masters of piano music.

Night Music, a cycle of twelve pieces, is the young man's first solo production. Hints of Alexander Scriabin and Claude Debussy, quiet echoes of Frédéric Chopin, Robert Schumann and Sergei Rachmaninoff mingle with virtuoso, brilliantly sparkling figures of the jazz era, Latin American sensual pulses alternate with the fleeting flavours of impressionism ...

"[...] and if the cycle begins with charming bar music, then we are at the highest level of virtuosity in the second piece." (Norbert Tischer, pizzicato.lu)

"Night Music envelops the soul like a warm cloak [...]" (Michaela Schabel, schabel-kultur-blog.de)

"There's nothing artificial here, it's the power of music that flows from emotion and uniqueness. We are thrilled!" (jazz-fun.de)

"[...] and then this sparkling elegance that makes up the conclusion of this cycle. A CD for everyone who likes piano music and is open to new things." (Your Opera Advisor, Sven Godenrath)

Vitalii Kyianytsia, piano

Vitalii Kyianytsia
(1991) is a Ukrainian pianist and composer. He was born in Kiev, where he began his musical education at the age of six. He has lived in Germany since 2017.

He studied in Frankfurt am Main with the Ensemble Modern and in Stuttgart with Nicolas Hodges. Vitalii Kyianytsia has won prizes at several international competitions, including the Orléans Piano Competition (France), the UNISA International Jazz Piano Competition (South Africa), the Transatlantyk Instant Composition Competition (Łódź, Poland) and the ACC Composition Competition (Gwangju, South Korea).

Vitalii Kyianytsia is regularly invited to important contemporary music events, e.g. the Lucerne Festival Alumni Ensemble, the Mixtur Festival (Barcelona), the Impuls Festival (Graz) and the Klangspuren Schwaz (Austria). He also received an invitation from the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt. His empathy, his exceptional technique, his passion for improvisation and his compositional skills inevitably led him to his true love: jazz.

In 2021, he founded the Vitalii Kyianytsia Jazz Trio, which regularly gives concerts at home and abroad.

His first jazz album Last Day of Spring (2022) with bassist Johannes Fink and drummer Mathias Ruppnig is undoubtedly a preliminary highlight of his work.
