Info for Tyr (2024 Remaster)

Nobody would have predicted such a comeback for Tony Iommi and his men, but the last two albums "The Eternal Idol" and "Headless Cross" almost gave rise to a new Sabbath mania. The expectations for the follow-up album "Tyr" were therefore not exactly low, and the band once again succeeded in producing a fantastic album. 'Anno Mundi' is a good opener with a beautiful chorus and fantastic riff, 'The Lawmaker' is the typical uptempo cracker in the 'Die Young' style. The following 'Jerusalem' is the most melodic piece, almost commercial, but 'The Sabbath Stones', a dark opus that can only come from the pen of Tony Iommi, makes up for it. Side two opens with the acoustic intro 'The Battle Of Tyr', which leads directly into the dark, demonic 'Odin's Court'. This is followed by the fast-paced 'Valhalla', which is characterised by the master's solo. This is followed by 'Feels Good To Me', a flawless, apparently lyrically positive ballad (!!) that definitely has the potential to be a hit. 'Heaven In Black' is pure power once again at the end. There's no question that BLACK SABBATH have once again succeeded in creating a great album with "Tyr", without any revolutionary new impulses, but who would have expected anything else? "Tyr" is the living history of a legend reborn.

"Gothic in approach, but crushing guitar riffs galore, Tyr followed Black Sabbath's previous return to the spotlight by less than a year. Again leaning heavily on the darker side of life, or perhaps, death, Tyr is a set of tunes loosely based around the Norse tales of Odin and the gods of war. "Valhalla" is unlike anything the old Sabbath tried, yet still sounds familiar. "The Sabbath Stones" mix myth with metal in a crushing display of musical synthesis. With Tyr, Black Sabbath sound as serious as can be." (James Chrispell, AMG)
